Citytrip de Koog, Texel,
Netherlands, June 2021

Day 3
Thursday, June 10th

Today the plan is to pay a visit to Den Burg. This is located in the center of the island and is the largest village on Texel. Archeological finds indicate that Den Burg is quite old. It still has lots of picturesque small houses giving the location a village like character.

Most of the younger children visit schools located in Den Burg. Older ones visit school located on the main land. These children often stay with foster parents during the week and return to their parents during the weekend.

Nature Reserve Waalenburg

Having left Den Burg we head North through the nature reserve WaalenBurg back to De Koog. The polder Waal en Burg originally used to be a tidal wetland area, and was created in 1654 by building the Ruigendijk (a dike). In 1909 it was declared a monument of nature and a preservation area. It is a nesting area for many bird species and therefore popular for bird spotting. Don´t forget to bring your binoculars!
