Citytrip 2019
Paris, France

Day 1 (Part 1)
Sunday, October 6th

I love simply love Paris. No matter how often you visit this city, you will always see something you have not yet seen before. And I have still a lot to see and a lot of places to visit here. For our means of transport we decided in favor off the train, the TGV (The Trains á Grande Vitesse). On previous visits to Paris we also used the train. We will board the TGV in Rotterdam, and then the next stop will be Brussels and then Paris. It will bring us in only a couple of hours to the most northern train station of Paris, Gare du Nord.

The Gare du Nord is the largest station in Paris and located in the 10th arrondissement. It opened in 1846 and the building itself was designed by the architect Jacques Hittorf in a modern neoclassical style with a majestic facade decorated with 23 statues. The new and improved station was fully functional by 1864.

The name was decided with the notion that travelers would be able to travel to Belgium, the Netherlands, Northern Germany and the Scandinavian countries. The Paris Gare du Nord is also connected to the Paris Metro system, line 4, 5 and 7. Not very far from the Gare du Nord station, just a five minute walk, is the Gare de l´Est, another main railway station in Paris.

We arrive in Paris at the Gare du Nord station at about Hrs. 11:30. We than head for the hotel that we have used during previous visits and which is close to the train station. The hotel Hôtel Maison du Pré where we made reservations is located in the Rue de Maubeuge, and it is only a five-minute walk from the Gare du Nord station.

In the direct vicinity of the hotel are restaurants, bars and supermarkets galore. From here it is only a fifteen minute walk to the Sacré Coeur Cathedral and Montmartre.
