Summer holiday 2003
Le Cap D´Agde − France 2003

Wednesday, 9th July
Day 6

Wednesday equals market day! This morning we get up around 08:00 hr., have an early breakfast, and then leave for a visit to the local market. Yesterday at the reception desk we learned about today´s market. Vegetables, clothes, household appliances, fried chicken, pastry, bread, fish and so much more! We buy a large round bread, haricots and some olives. The last will go nice with the beer that I bought earlier on Monday.

The rest of the day we do nothing, which by it self is difficult enough. But we try real hard. And we succeed, I tell you. With grace! I manage to keep this up until 13:30 hr., after which I walk to the reception office in order to join the rest of the diving expedition. Together we walk to the "Plage du Mole" beach and report to the diving shop of O2Mer.

The people who will dive are issued a wetsuit, flippers and diving goggles. I myself have never worn a wetsuit before, and it feels quite strange wearing this kind of a tight garment. Then the lot of us walk across the boulevard and the beach into a gentle surf! We swim approximately 20 to 30 meters out into the sea to one of these inflatable Zodiac boats.

Out here the seawater is a little bit nippy, but if you are wearing a wetsuit like we do its not that bad. It also keeps us afloat without having to make any effort. I dive down holding my breath but without extra weight this is virtually impossible. I just shoot back to the surface again. It feels like swimming in the Dead Sea.

As my turn comes up, I am hoisted into the diving gear and my goggles are set straight. Just as I expected the gear is not trimmed, and the diver chaperoning me pushes me down towards the sea floor, which is at a dept of about three metres. Slowly I am being pushed from one interesting site to the other.

The water is surprisingly clear and I can see rays of sunlight reaching the bottom. Large numbers of colourful fish swim in front of me, I can almost touch them. There are also lots of plants, see anemones and various other marine life forms. The see anemones are tan coloured at the base and the tentacles have either pink or red tips.

The dive takes about 10 to 15 minutes, after which we return to surface and pick up the next person. Fortunately I was able to purchase a disposable underwater camera and have made some nice pictures. Having returned to the diving shop, everyone was issued a dive certificate from O2Mer. This was quite a nice and interesting afternoon, and certainly worth a recommendation!

A playback show! Yes, you read it well, a playback show! The animation team has organised another spectacle. The greatest show on earth will start at 20:00 hr. tonight, and the kids are encouraged to participate and register their act. A proper stage has already been fitted together, and the public is gathering around it, waiting in anticipation.

ne of the French children is found prepared to function as ringmaster for the French audience, while the members of the animation team will address the Dutch majority of the public in their own language. The enthusiastic animation team opens the show with an act of their own. Then the rest of the youthful contestants play their parts. Each act is being concluded with a loud applause.

A very successful evening again, if I may say so. "Vive le Team Animation!" Or something like it!

and welcome!
